Knife at school on 1/24/2020

January 24, 2020

Dear Parents,

This letter is to inform you that one of our students brought a knife to school today. Our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise.

The office received this information and the student was immediately questioned. The knife was found in the coat pocket of an eighth grader. The student stated that he brought the knife to school for protection. Bringing a weapon to school is not only against policy and against the law, but it does not make school safe.  Schools are safe when students follow the rules and let the adults take of problems.

Please discuss this incident with your children and emphasize that this behavior is not tolerated. Also, please emphasize the importance of telling you or a staff member if there is a weapon at school. In this way, we are all working together to keep our school safe.  In regards to feeling safe, I have shared many ideas of how to tell an adult here at school.  One of the most used options, is emailing me.  Students all have a Gmail account, when they type in my first name, I am one of the first email addresses that pop up.

Please feel free to call me at 313-203-3200 ext. 3191 or email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Aaron Mollett
